UAE Residents Will be Made to Pump Their Own Gas
Soon motorists in Abu Dhabi will have to pump their own petrol and pay for it with just their Emirates ID cards starting next month, March 1.
Four self-service petrol stations with a new cashless payment system will open as a part of a seven-month trial by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
Self-service stations have been already been tested in Dubai when Enoc launched the midnight to 6am self-service but some were opposed to the new system saying it is “confusing” and “it isn’t a good idea”.
The trial stations in Abu Dhabi are Rabdan service in Al Mushrif on Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street, Al Nasr service station on Sheikh Zayed the First Street, Al Zafarana service station near Khalifa University and Al Qanah service station in Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street.
To fill up, customers will have to activate a display at the pump and simply follow the instructions on screen.
