Abu Dhabi Police Is Cancelling Black Points

The Emirate aims to promote safe driving on its roads

Black points no more! To some extent atleast.

Abu Dhabi Police is giving its drivers a clean slate before the implementation of new traffic fines this July. Excluding big traffic offences such as reckless driving, driving at excessive speed, jumping red lights, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and others, all black points in minor traffic violations registered against drivers on Abu Dhabi roads before July 1 will be cancelled, reports Khaleej Times.

The move, which is part of Abu Dhabi Police's initiative titled The Year of Giving, hopes to encourage drivers to change their behaviour on the roads, and abide by traffic rules and regulations.

Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police said: "The initiative to cancel black points benefits all drivers that have committed minor traffic offences in the emirate of Abu Dhabi."

He encouraged drivers to take advantage of the new initiative in order to avoid having their licences withdrawn in case they have exceeded the maximum 24 black points.

We hope Dubai follows suit!
