A vehicle inspector in Dubai was arrested for accepting Dhs66,000 in bribes
A vehicle inspector, along with three accomplices, has been arrested and charged for bribery after collecting a total of Dhs66,000 in bribes.
The 32-year old was accused of collecting money from 660 people, whose cars did not pass the technical test, required for car registration renewal. In return for the bribe the inspector would pass the cars in the re-test without following procedure.
The man also entered false data in the e-system that he checked the previous test results, and that he verified that the faults were fixed, and he would issue the ‘pass’ reports.
The man is also accused of forging electronic data and issuing fake test results.
The three accomplices are charged in the case of mediating between the employee and the motorists.
A police officer heard about the scam and reportedly went undercover - he brought a car in to fail the test, springing the suspects and subsequently arrested the men on May 2.
