Outrageous Ke$ha is known for her outlandish stage attire, but the 26-year-old Tik Tok singer isn’t as confident as she seems. With just a month to go before her Dubai performance at RedFestDXB, the pop star had admitted to having an eating disorder and checked into Timberline Knolls clinic in Illinois, where Demi Lovato spent three months tackling addiction issues and her own eating disorder back in 2010 and 2011.
Now, Ke$ha's mum Pebe Sebert has joined her there to support her. "I'm checking myself into Timberline Knolls today for post-traumatic stress disorder, at Ke$ha's urging," Pebe said on 11 January.
In a official statement while she checked in on 3 January, Ke$ha had said: "I'm a crusader for being yourself and loving yourself, but I've found it hard to practice. I'll be unavailable for the next 30 days, seeking treatment for my eating disorder... to learn to love myself again, exactly as I am."
Ahlan! approached RedFestDXB organisers Done Events and asked how this revelation will affect the show. “We at Done Events have absolutely no reason to worry about Ke$ha’s performance and in general applaud any artist wanting to improve their health and wellbeing prior to performing here in the UAE,” said Thomas Ovesen, COO of Done Events, “To be honest, I have in the past had the unfortunate experience of working with at least one artist that could have benefited from a rehab visit before going on tour so if any of our upcoming Dubai performers decide to check themselves out and seek to improve their health prior to coming here and performing for their Middle East fans I think that is fantastic and indeed very good for them.” Let’s just hope he’s right.
INFO: Ke$ha is booked to headline the show on Thursday 13 February; other artists performing at RedFestDXB include John Newman, Naughty Boy, The Lumineers, Conor Maynard, A-Yo (Mark Ronson and Zane Lowe), Marvin Humes from JLS and Tinie Tempah. Tickets are available from www.redfestdxb.com.
