1. Step Up Revolution
Best for: The Girls
Stars: Kathryn McCormick, Ryan Guzman and Adam G Sevani
Story:
The Step Up flicks may be cheesy but at least you know what you’re getting! Step Up Revolution is the fourth in the series and follows protagonist Emily as she goes to Miami to follow her dream of becoming a dancer. There, she falls for Sean, the leader of a dance crew whose neighbourhood is threatened by her dad’s company’s development plans. The film doesn’t exactly reek of Oscar potential but Ryan’s cute and we love a dance movie!
INFO: Release date 16 August; Vox Cinemas, Grand Cinemas, Reel Cinemas.

2. The Dark Knight Rises
Best for:
Fantasy
Stars: Christian Bale, Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway
STORY:
Ladies, if you’ve missed the first two flicks in this series, here’s a bit of background: In Batman Begins, Bruce Wayne’s parents are murdered, leading him to create his alter ego Batman (played by Christian Bale). In the second installment, The Dark Knight, he fights a bunch of villains as he sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organisations that plague the streets of Gotham. In The Dark Knight Rises, a new evil leader, Bane (Tom Hardy), takes over and Batman resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy. Not just a testosterone fest – expect some serious girl power from Catwoman, played by Anne Hathaway!
INFO: Release date 16 August; Vox Cinemas, Grand Cinemas, Reel Cinemas.

3. Brave (3D)
Best for: Families
Stars: Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson and Julie Walters
Story:
The latest Disney Pixar flick to hit the silver screen, Brave is about red-headed Princess Merida (Kelly Macdonald), who, when her parents try to marry her off, is determined to make her own path in life. While doing this, she accidently brings chaos to her kingdom and then goes on a mission to undo the curse, testing both her bravery and her archery skills. Although Brave is aimed at a younger audience, we do love a strong female heroine!
INFO: Release date 16 August; Vox Cinemas; Grand Cinemas; Reel Cinemas.

4. The Bourne Legacy
Best for: Thrills
STARS: Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz
Story:
Yes, they’re still going! The Bourne Legacy is the fourth installment in the Bourne series, although without Matt Damon’s character, Jason Bourne. The film follows on from The Bourne Ultimatum, which ended with the CIA shutting down ‘Operation Outcome’. In this flick, the operation’s agent Aaron Cross and doctor Stephanie Snyder are now targets and must escape before the CIA assassinates them!
INFO: Release date 23 August; Vox Cinemas, Grand Cinemas, Reel Cinemas.

5. Brake
Best for: Suspense
STARS: Stephen Dorff, Chyler Leigh
Story:
If you think you’re having a bad day, this film will put things into perspective! A Secret Service agent, Jeremy Reins (Stephen Dorff), wakes up trapped in the trunk of a moving car with no recollection of how or why he’s there. He then endures mental and physical torture as terrorists attempt to extract information for their plot against the president of the USA. Intense!
INFO: Release date, 16 August; Vox Cinemas, Grand Cinemas, Reel Cinemas.

6. The Watch
Best for: Comedy
STARS: Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn
Story:
With all these guys together in one film, it must be good! The flick follows a group of dads in suburbia who form a Neighbourhood Watch group as a way to get out of their mundane daily routines. But they get more than they bargained for when they find themselves defending the planet from an alien invasion! We expect a harmless, laugh-a-minute gagfest.
INFO: Release date 23 August; Vox Cinemas, Grand Cinemas, Reel Cinemas.

7. The Expendables 2
Best for: Action
Stars: Bruce Willis, Liam Hemsworth and Jason Statham
Story:
This could either be an action fan’s dream or nightmare. The movie is a sequel to the 2010 flick The Expendables but bears no real resemblance to its predecessor. Starring a huge list of action hero faves – Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger – the film sees Mr Church reunite The Expendables for a mission. When one of the men is killed, their quest for revenge sees them battling an unexpected threat!
INFO: Release date 16 August; Vox Cinemas, Grand Cinemas, Reel Cinemas.

8. Total Recall
Best for: Sci-Fi
STARS: Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel
Story:
This is a remake of the 1990 film, minus the trip to Mars featured in the original. In this version, factory worker Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell) begins to suspect that he is a spy after he finds himself on the run from Rekall – a company that provides clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led.
He soon discovers that everything in his life is a lie and goes on a mission to recapture his memory. If you’ve seen the original sci-fi action film you should know what to expect!
INFO: Release date 30 August; Vox Cinemas, Reel Cinemas.
