Having spent the last couple of months over-indulging in just about everything, thoughts have now turned to ways we can rid ourselves of that all too evident holiday bulge. And what better way than to sign up to one of Doha’s many uber glam health clubs? Fitted with all the mod cons and state-of-the-art kit, they’re easy on the eye, even if they’re hard on the body. But you know what they say: no pain, no gain. Read on, then sign up at your favourite one and feel the burn!
The Ritz-Carlton Spa
What: A gym with motivational views over the marina and top of the range equipment, plus access to all of the spa facilities, including two swimming pools, a sauna, a steam room and a Roman bath. A number of classes such as yoga and Pilates are included in the price.
Best Bit: A fab indoor Olympic sized 25m pool that you can use any time regardless of whether it’s 45 degrees or 14 degrees outside.
How Much: Take advantage this winter of a special promotion that means you can pick up a month’s membership for one person for the special rate of QR2,100 or membership for a couple for a month for QR3,900. Annual memberships are also available.

Doha Marriott Hotel Spa
What: Cardio and strength machines are on offer in the gym while bootcamp, body conditioning and aquagym classes are included. If you need more motivation to get exercising then you can sign up to personal training sessions for an extra fee. Also included is use of the fab pool and the beach, which is one of Doha’s best.
Best Bit: The Marriott host one of the most famous brunches in Doha so you can use the facilities on a Friday morning before heading in for brunch straight afterwards – and because you’ll have exercised prior to brunch, you’ll be able to indulge guilt-free!
How Much: Monthly membership is not available. A year’s membership for one person is QR8,000 or membership for a couple for a year is QR13,000.

The Spa and Wellness Centre
What: A small but well-kitted out gym that screams luxury. Little rolled up white fluffy towels, TV screens on the treadmills and baskets full of shiny fruit – it almost makes exercising a pleasure. Post work-out you can take a dip in the sea or the pool or relax in the indoor wet area.
Best Bit: There are so many! But if we had to choose it would be the mood room and the reflexology pool.
How Much: A year’s membership for one person is QR21,000 or membership for a couple for a year comes in at QR27,000.

What: This gym offers everything you would expect, plus a bit more: treadmills, step machines, elliptical bikes, rowing machines and weightlifting machines. But it’s the health club facilities that make Eforea so popular. Gorgeous infinity-style pool, funky little chilled-out beach and a great thermal area are all included in the membership.
Best Bit: Once you’ve had enough exercise and sunbathing, you can pop into Traders for a sundowner or try the lush prawn Caesar salad at the pool bar!

Vitality Zone Health Club
What: An absolutely fabulous fitness centre complete with a Power Plates machine ideal for toning up, is situated on the seventh floor and use of the 35m rooftop lap pool, two outdoor Jacuzzis, steam room and sauna are also included in the membership price.
Best Bit: The fitness centre is open from 6am until 11pm so there’s no excuse for not going.
How Much: A month’s membership for one person is QR1,200 or membership for a couple for a month is QR1,800. Six-month and annual memberships are also available.

Intercontinental Doha, The City
What: Well-equipped with all the usual machinery, the health club and pool are located on the 46th floor of the hotel and the gym has floor-to-ceiling windows giving you a great vista over West Bay. This should help distract you from the task of getting fit. In addition, you can plunge into the outdoor swimming pool and relax in the steam room, sauna or Jacuzzi. Exercise classes and personal training sessions cost extra.
Best Bit: The beautiful lattice ceiling that is all that separates your swimming experience from the glorious blue skies.
