5 Things To Do This Fortnight in Qatar

1. PARTY LIKE A GREEK
THU 1 MAY-FRI 2 MAY

Get ready for a plate-smashing, foot-stomping good time! Mykonos is hosting a weekend of Bouzouki Nights on the lawn, so be prepared for lots of dancing and some crazy antics along with traditional live Bouzouki music. Chef Ilias Kafalis will ensure you’re well fed with a buffet feast of Greek goodness, including kleftiko (absolutely delicious slow cooked lamb), keftedakia (Greek meatballs) and galaktoboureko (a semolina-based custard dessert). That’ll give you something to dance off.

INFO: QR250 per person for buffet, dinner 7.30pm-12midnight, Mykonos at Intercontinental Doha, West Bay Lagoon, 4484 4919, www.ihg.com/intercontinental/hotels

 2. GO UNDERGROUND
EVERY THU

The Hideout is the new underground music spot for starting your weekend with the best of deep house, nu disco and tech house with cool Doha DJs. Situated at The Terrace at Sharq’s Al Dana, this is a hot new scene for people-watching and enjoying the latest new tracks. Dress code is sleek, smart and stylish – get out that LBD.

3. WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY?
MON 28 APR

English comedian Phill Jupitus (Never Mind The Buzzcocks) will be a special guest at a performance of the hit improv show Whose Line Is It Anyway? in Doha this month. It promises to be a night of laughs with a smattering of biting wit as scenes and characters are created in front of the audience in an instant, and just as quickly changed again.

INFO: QR150, 7pm-10pm, Al Silia Ballroom, Grand Hyatt Doha, tickets available from hotel concierge, cash bar on the night.

4. PARTY AT THE PIER
EVERY THU

Listen to some smooth music from the DJ and chill with your friends, kicking back as you catch up with the goss in your own beautiful little open air cabana. The Party at the Pier is one of the most relaxed ways to kick off your weekend in Qatar and the views of Doha by night are beautiful.

5. EXPERIENCE A WORLD OF ART
WED 30 APR-SAT 3 MAY

If you want to see an art exhibition that has a little bit of everything, from realism to abstract works, reflections on Qatar to reflections on the world at large, this is the event to go to. The fourth annual exhibition by the International Artists Doha (IAD), hosted by Qatar Foundation Community Services, will include works from 22 artists who hail from all over the world but who now call Qatar home. This year’s theme is deep – Rooh Al Hayat: The Essence of Life – so there’s sure to be more than one work that makes you pause for thought. In addition to the individual artworks on display, all of the artists will contribute a small canvas to be offered for silent auction, with half of the proceeds going to IAD to fund future public events.
