Celebrate Burns Night
Sat 25 Jan
Och aye, it’s Burns Night! The traditional Scottish celebration will see new British bar and restaurant Reform Social & Grill, host a Burns supper. Not sure what all the fuss is about? Check out our facts!

What’s Burns Night?
1 It’s a celebration of the birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns.
2 Food served includes haggis, which is sheep’s heart, liver and lungs, mixed with onion and spices and traditionally encased in the animal’s stomach (it’s an acquired taste). It’s served with neeps (turnips) and tatties (potatoes). Clootie dumpling, a suet based pudding, rounds off the meal.
3 Burns suppers follow a traditional format. They include a bagpipe tribute to the haggis, and a ‘toast to the lasses’ by a male speaker, as well as a ‘reply’ to the toast to the lasses by a usually witty female. It’s all done in traditional Scots language – but don’t let that put you off.

Dubai is getting on its marks to welcome some of the world’s best athletes for the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon. The race will return to its original location of Beach Road this year, starting at Madinat Jumeirah. If you fancy having a go, registration is open until the day before, spaces permitting. If you don’t fancy the main event there’s also a 10km race and 3km fun run. If you’d rather cheer on the runners, look out for Meselech Melkamu and Meseret Hailu, who’ll be battling to the finish line for Ethiopia.

Its special menu, created by Chinese master chef Fu, includes duck spring rolls, tiger prawns and other assorted seafood followed by black pepper beef and egg fried rice, rounded off with Chinese New Year dumpling with sweet bean paste.
