While 2016 was the ‘Year of Reading’, 2017 has been designated as the ‘Year of Giving’ by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
According to reports, the aim is to promote a culture of giving back to the community, and to enhance the spirit of volunteering and loyalty to the country.
Reportedly, a series of initiatives will target the private sector to “create a sense of community responsibility”, while a number of specialised volunteer programmes will be set up to help social development.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, also recently approved the official ‘Year of Giving 2017’ logo.
The word ‘Giving’ represents the main component of the logo. The last letter of ‘Al Khair’ which is Arabic for giving is written in the form of the frond of a palm tree, according to reports.
