10 Things To Do in the UAE this Week

From reliving the nineties at Mixtape Rewind, to seeing We are the Champions and singing along to Texas

Relive the Nineties at MiXTAPE rewind
Fri 17 Jan
Hop aboard the Vengabus – the Vengaboys are coming! The Europop group behind sing-along hits such as Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!, We’re Going to Ibiza and We Like to Party are among the acts at this Nineties throwback gig, returning to town for the second year. We caught up with Robin Pors from the Dutch ensemble, who’ll share the bill with fellow retro pop faves Dr. Alban, Snap, N-Trance and Boney M.

You sang about Ibiza, but what’s your fave holiday destination?
Dubai! It’s one of my favourite cities in the world. We decided to stay in Dubai for a few days after the show! Us Vengas are always up for a place where you can hang out on the beach, soak in the sun and party ’til dawn.

Will you be coming by Vengabus?
We left the Vengabus safely in El Segundo. We are coming with Venga Airways this time!

You’re known for your crazy outfits. What will you wear in Dubai?
It’s gonna be glitter all over the place. We’ve had new outfits made especially for the show in Dubai.

What can we expect from the show?
High energy and uplifting craziness!

We hear you wrote a song with showbiz guru Perez Hilton?
We met him backstage during a Kylie Minogue show in Vegas. It was so much fun that we asked him to join us in our video in 2010. He is so funny!

We hear there’s a Venga baby?
Yes, Kim gave birth on 29 October to Joveyn, a gorgeous little boy.

See We are the Champions
Thu 16-Sat 18 Jan

Fancy seeing Michael Jackson, Elton John, Tina Turner, Freddie Mercury and Pink all on one bill? Well, you can at epic show We Are the Champions, being dubbed ‘the tribute of all tributes’. Danny Goodman, a dead ringer for MJ, will sing some of the King of Pop’s best loved songs, including Billie Jean, and Bad, while Tina Turner impersonator Samantha Tirivacho will belt out hits like Proud Mary. Pop maestro Elton John, or rather someone who looks just like him, will bring some Crocodile Rock to the stage. Completing the line-up are sound-alikes of Freddie Mercury and Pink. With a cast of 10 and a band flying in from South Africa, we expect a highly entertaining night.

Watch an epic smackdown at the American Wrestling Show
Thu 16 Jan
This event, branded “the wildest wrestling show ever” will see big names Chris Masters, Carlito, MVO, Vampiro and Chavo Guerrero flying in to take on a series of bouts in Dubai. They’ll include the ‘ladder match’, which sees contestants battle for a prize belt placed high above the ring, fighting off their opponents at the same time. All we can say is we’re glad we’ll be on the other side of the ropes.
