British DJ Kevin O’Leary has a pretty sweet deal. He spends the summer island hopping around Europe, the winter playing at London clubs and in his spare time, he’s doing one-off gigs for A-listers. Nice work if you can get it! We tracked down the British DJ before his gig at Mo*Vida Dubai to find out all the goss about playing at Kate Moss’ birthday party and Gwen Stefani’s wedding, plus his take on this summer’s hottest tracks.
How are you finding Dubai so far?
I always love playing here. It’s a great place to have fun and Mo*Vida has a real good buzz about it.
How would you describe your music style?
Well I’ve played such an eclectic style over the years. I’ve done everything from house music residencies in Ibiza to being booked to play hip hop for the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye West.
What’s your fave genre to play?
A real mixed bag really. I play everything from house to hip hop to rock to old school – anything to create a party vibe!
We hear you played at Gwen Stefani’s star-studded wedding. That must have been a crazy experience...
Her wedding was great! She’s a real sweetie. I wish her and Gavin [Rossdale] all the best. I also did Kate Moss’ wedding last year, which was amazing. I performed on the same stage as Bryan Ferry – I can’t top that!
You also played at Kate’s birthday party. Can you tell us about any scandals there?
Kate’s a legend. All I can say is that it’s been a fantastic experience to have done any of her parties!
What do you think will be the big tunes of the summer?
Azealia Banks’ 212 featuring Lazy Jay and Goyte’s Somebody That I Used to Know featuring Kimbra.
Do you have plans to work with any more celebs this year?
I just did a party for Flo Rida at Mo*Vida London which was crazy. We also have Sean Paul this month which will be insane!
