Who else fancies a last minute getway? Well the Al Isra'a Wal Mi’raj holiday is coming up this weekend, and we're set to get an extra day off. So here's a round up of some quick and easy places to escape to this weekend, all for under Dhs2,000...

1. Muscat, Oman

If you’ve not made it to neighbouring Oman yet, this Isra’a Wal Miraaj is the perfect time. With flights from just Dhs466, take some time out and explore the laid-back capital, Muscat, with its Grand Mosque, colourful souks and beachfront hotels. Alternatively, head inland in search of the Arabia of old – majestic forts, traditional villages and dramatic sand dunes. The flight to Muscat is a quick one-hour hop from Dubai.

2. Beirut, Lebanon

Just over three hours away, this Eastern party town is the perfect weekend escape. By day, you can hit the track to watch Arabian racehorses and have a flutter, then head to Mnaitra, just outside the city, for canoeing or biking, or scuba dive in Beirut’s warm seas. By night, head to the cool Gemmayzeh area packed full of party-goers before going on to an exotic pool party, private beach bar or trance club that’s open till sunrise. But there is more to this city than just parties – it’s also a hub for history, stunning landscapes, and architecture, not forgetting the delicious local food.

Price: Return flights on skyscanner.ae from Sharjah to Beirut start from Dhs670 per person with Air Arabia.

3. Bucharest, Romania

Roughly five hours will land you in Bucharest, Romania, where you will find your money goes a long way. From hotel prices to museum fees and the cost of a drink, Bucharest is a bargain city-break option this Isra’a Wal Miraaj. The energetic city has much to offer culture vultures – everything from the impressive Palace of the Parliament to the quirky Museum of the Romanian Peasant at the very other end of the scale.

4. Sri Lanka

For an affordable spot of Indian Ocean sunshine, head to Sri Lanka for a long weekend. Think fish curry, trekking in the jungle, sacred temples and luxury beach hotels for a fraction of the cost of their neighbouring Indian Ocean isles. What’s not to like? Plus, it’s only four and half hours by plane.

Price: Return flights on skyscanner.ae from Dubai to Colombo start from Dhs983 per person with FlyDubai.

5. Goa, India

Another popular destination for UAE residents, and it’s not hard to see why! Jump on a short, three-and-a-half hour flight and bliss out on the beaches of Goa. While the area has become much more mainstream in recent years, there are still hippie enclaves like the Anjuna flea markets, which are sure to satisfy all your jewellery/handicraft/harem pants needs.

Price: Return flights on skyscanner.ae from Dubai to Goa start from Dhs775 per person with Oman Air (via Muscat), or fly direct with Air India with prices from Dhs1,327.

6. Dubrovnik, Croatia

Relive your favourite Game of Thrones scenes in this medieval country. Dubrovnik’s old town, aka King’s Landing, is surrounded by thick stone walls and is located on a peninsula surrounded by a dramatic stone cliff. It’s no wonder this monumental city was chosen to pose as one of Westeros’ main landmarks. The most memorable way to see Croatia is to hop around its islands, of which there are more than 1,000. We highly recommend the beautiful Elafiti islands, a group of six islands and several islets, where you can explore quaint fishing towns and relax by quiet swimming spots. A visit to the capital, Zagreb, should not be missed. Best seen on foot, it is an easy city to stroll around as you admire its Austro-Hungarian architecture, scenic parks and busy squares.

Price: Return flights on skyscanner.ae from Dubai to Dubrovnik start from Dhs1,296 per person with FlyDubai.

7. The Philippines

With more than 7,000 islands that brim with natural wonders, the Philippines is home to more than a few hidden gems. You’re guaranteed the most bang for your buck here when it comes to accommodation, spa treatments and dining out. A visit to one of its many tropical beaches is nothing short of spectacular, with crystal-clear waters and powder-white sand. Head to North Luzon, the biggest island of the Philippines, to explore a land of misty mountains, where pines replace palm trees. If you’re a diving enthusiast, then head to Mindoro, a 40 sq km reef that is famous in the diving community for its abundance of larger creatures, such as sharks, rays and sea turtles. The activities on offer here are endless.

Price: Return flights on skyscanner.ae from Dubai to Manilla start from Dhs1,536 per person with Cebu Pacific.

8. Cairo, Egypt

While Cairo is famous for its pyramids (and rightly so!), there’s so much more to see on a quick city break to this chaotic yet charming city. Just under four hours by plane from Dubai, you’ll find ancient mosques, crowded streets, bazaars and sheesha bars. Find one of the many rooftop restaurants overlooking the Giza pyramids for a sneak peek at the evening’s light show. And for those looking to escape the mayhem, jump on a traditional Felucca for a relaxing sail along the Nile, taking in a totally different view of the sprawling city.

Price: Return flights on skyscanner.ae from Abu Dhabi to Cairo start from Dhs1,239 per person with EgyptAir.

9. Zanzibar

Swap rush-hour traffic for white sand downtime on Zanzibar. The African isle is just under six hours away and promises a blissful break. While there are many luxury hotels on the island, for an extra special trip try the underwater room at Manta Resort on Pemba Island. Board a wooden boat for the swift two-minute journey to this unique accommodation, lying half in, half out of the crystal-clear sea of the Manta house reef. It’s like having your own private floating island, complete with the most authentic of sea views from your submerged bedroom. You can still sunbathe – and stargaze – on the deck above, and if you want more underwater action, the hotel offers dive trips to the spectacular sites off the Pemba Island coast.

Price: Return flights on skyscanner.ae from Dubai to Zanzibar start from Dhs1,430 per person with FlyDubai.

10. Prague, Czech Republic

For a real change of scene, head to this medieval city of fairytale castles and cobblestoned squares. It almost feels like a Disneyland for grown-ups. While the Czech capital has plenty of cheap bars and dance floors to hit, it’s also on the UNESCO World Heritage list, thanks to its gothic castles and bohemian baroque architecture. In such a picturesque city, why not wander around the old town and check out Týn Cathedral and the Dancing House. There are museums galore that cover all kinds of themes, from history and art to toys and magic. And it’s relatively inexpensive compared to other major European cities.

Price: Return flights on skyscanner.ae from Dubai to Prague start from Dhs1,626 per person with FlyDubai.
