Like a bit of eye candy with your cocktail? Forget the clientele, it’s all about the scenery in these stylish spots…

If you prize your views over your creature comforts, Neos fits the bill. It’s neither cosy nor good value but you can’t argue with the views from 63 floors above Dubai. If you’re looking to impress, this Art Deco-inspired hideaway is the place to do it, just don’t expect to be able to sit down. Everyone else in there seems to have had the same idea.

The Pool Bar
We were delighted to stumble across this little gem, completely by accident. Who knew there was such a cool spot within a stone’s throw of the shops? Views come courtesy of Burj Dubai on one side and Sheikh Zayed Road from the other, so there’s plenty of space for visitors to pace and point while you enjoy the free bar snacks. There’s also a surprisingly good vino menu and regular drinks promotions so, while it may not be the liveliest spot, it’s a good shout for a quiet one before dinner for the spectacular views alone.

Vista Lounge & Bar
If you fancy taking a closer look at Dubai Creek over cocktails from a civilised distance, this is the spot for you. Live piano music, tasty bar snacks and a chilled-out vibe make it the top spot for a post-work tipple at the quieter end of town. And if you fancy dinner afterwards, you can just pop downstairs to Bistro Madeleine or Reflets par Pierre Gagnaire. Love it.

It’s so high up you’ll feel a bit giddy before you reach the bar but if you’re a lady who loves a view, or your visitors can’t get enough of them, this oft-overlooked spot needs to be on your to-do list. Think great grapes and quirky cocktails, not to mention a rocking restaurant if your party gets peckish. Vibe-wise, there’s a nice mix of tourists and post-work party people.

If you really love the Dubai Fountain, or your visitors are obsessed with views, you need to hit Calabar for a cocktail before Karma Kafé. You do pay for the views – the drinks aren’t cheap – but there are plenty of happy hours to take the edge off.

Why settle for one angle when you can get 360 degrees? This rooftop treat offers views of the city from a different perspective. We love looking out over old-school Satwa, and the craziness of Sheikh Zayed Road looks so much more charming from the sky. But keep it casual. It’s much more of a terrace than a lounge.

Bar 44
Another old-school classic beloved by seasoned Dubai dwellers and visitors alike. So-called because it’s on the 44th floor, of course, with amazing views across the city. Think posh, soft furnishings and an in-house pianist, not to mention pretty pricey drinks. But if you’re looking for somewhere for a special occasion, it’s worth the investment as the service and scenery are so darn good. Go on, treat yourself.

You might not be able to see Dubai from up high at this Downtown joint but the view of the Dubai Fountain from Karma Kafé’s terrace more than makes up for it. Book a table for dinner to guarantee a good spot but brace yourself for the joys of the fountain’s musical extravaganza. You’ll leave with a renewed love, or loathing, of power ballads. Vibe-wise, expect to be given the once over by the fashion police on the way in. WOW RATING: 5 stars

Sometimes it’s nice to eschew Dubai’s more sophisticated spots and go low-key. And for times like these, Bur Dubai is your best friend. Forget the posh frock, keep it casual, kick back and enjoy. Probably best to save this lively spot for a night with the girls or bring the parents here to enjoy the views before the sun goes down.

There’s nothing like a nice and proper Dubai night out and Vu’s ticks all of the boxes for a chilled out evening catching up with the girls or a date night, if you’d rather someone else picked up the tab. Great cocktails, luxurious surroundings and tasty nibbles, not to mention one of the best views in town, are there for the taking. Admire the sprawling Sheikh Zayed Road from one side and old Dubai from the other.
