Ruth Chernih likes nothing better than to hang out at Ski Dubai to brush up on her technique

My Fitness Fix
“When everyone else is heading to the beach, I go to Ski Dubai to brush up on my technique. I took up the sport by chance after a friend decided to go for a lesson and dragged me with her. I was immediately hooked. I had weekly lessons at Ski Dubai for several months until I was safe enough to brave the slopes alone. And once I had honed my skills somewhat, I had a few advanced lessons to learn to jump the ‘kickers’ (ramps made of snow).”

Why I Love It
It’s a sport that you can enjoy on holiday. My first outdoor experience was a trip to Austria in 2008. It was indescribable - the freedom of the mountain, the space, the air, the breathtaking views… I was like a child in a sweet shop, excited about every new thing I saw. My next location was Uzbekistan, which was the most difficult terrain I have ridden, but at the same time it’s the most satisfying as you prove to yourself your capabilities.

Why you’ll Love It
Apart from a guaranteed workout you also get to chill out. It’s hard to think about the stresses and strains of the day when you’re zooming down the slopes. Plus the feeling of immense pride when you get to the end of a really challenging run can’t be beaten.
