Peter Andre talks to Ahlan!: 'I always love coming to Dubai'

24 Oct 2017

We chatted to Peter Andre ahead of his performance at WOW! That's What I Call Brunch about retro tunes, the UAE and more...

How excited are you to be performing at WOW! That’s What I Call Brunch?

I always love coming to Dubai and have been doing so for 20 years. I am so very much looking forward to performing for you all!

What do you like about this region?

I think what I love most about the UAE is the people, the culture and let’s not forget the food. Amazing.

Will you have any downtime to do any tourist-y stuff?

If I can get a day to swim in the beautiful sea and soak up the sun, then I would love that. I will be coming with my wife so we’re very excited.

What are your thoughts on the 90s resurgence of music in the area?

I think the music of both the ‘80s and the ‘90s were fantastic. I can understand peole loving the songs from that era because they were really great melodies and amazing songs.

Who did YOU love back in the 90s?

I grew up loving Michael Jackson and Prince. I still do.

What was the first ever single you owned?

The first album I ever bought was in 1979 (can you believe that?) and it was Off The Wall by Michael Jackson. I was six years old.

Are you still happy performing Mysterious Girl?

I love performing Mysterious Girl. Even more so now because the audience singalong with me.

Do you look back at some of the fashions from the 90s and cringe?

I had some bad fashion disasters. But hopefully now I dress well…

Are your kids aware what a legend their dad is? Do they sing your songs?

My children are so sweet and always sing my songs. I love them so much.

Adorable! ‘Scuse us while we melt… Whigfield is also performing, do you know each other from back in the day?

Yes! Whigfield is an old friend and it will be great to catch up with her.

Your fan base is VERY loyal. What’s the strangest fan related story you can tell us?"

Wow. Well, I do have the most amazing supporters. I have had some very normal and some, well, let’s say different (but in a nice way). I did have to call security once in the ‘90s when I was travelling with the Backstreet Boys. When the manager opened the room to let me in there was a noise. It was two fans hiding in the cupboard. I was laughing for ages and trying to figure out how they knew it was my room. Maybe they thought it was one of the Backstreet Boys?
