This is such a great initiative!

Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has just launched a new campagin called Charitable Steps, where the organization will donate Dhs1 to charity every time commuters take the stairs instead of the lift or escalator at Burjuman metro station.

A sensor has been placed at the first step of the stairs to count the commuters going up. The Charitable Steps initiative is currently only being tested at the Burjuman station, where more than 30,000 commuters pass through every day, reports Khaleej Times.

RTA has reported that one or two more stations will be added to the initiative next year, when it is rolled out in full form. The money will be donated by RTA to a charitable institution which will be identified with the help of the Beit Al Khair and Dar Al Ber Societies.

We'll definitely be heading to Burjuman metro station to do our part, will you?
