Victoria Beckham's Fashion Empire is Failing
We were super-excited when one of our fave designers opened her flagship store in London, but Victoria Beckham’s vision could be about to reach a premature end. Poor sales have spelled disaster for the former Spice Girl, compounded by the revelation late fashion icon Alexander McQueen loathed her. Despite its location on swanky Dover Street, the boutique attracted just 12 paying customers in its first four days of trading, according to UK newspaper The Sun. Although 500 people passed through its doors, just eight women and four men were seen leaving with the label’s trademark black and white shopping bags.
Posh barred from McQueen’s show
The pretty brunette is having a tough time in fashion as a new tell-all book reveals she was hated by one of the greatest British fashion designers of all time. In her biography, Gods and Kings, Dana Thomas claims Victoria was “barred from his catwalk show because he thought she was stupid.” She adds that Alexander, who tragically died in 2010 aged just 40, banned Beckham from wearing his clothes, although he was happy for her hubby David to dress in his designs.
In the book, she quotes Alexander as having said: “At the end of the day, it’s about my clothes and the hard work that everyone backstage puts into it, not about [Victoria] sitting in the front row lapping it up. That’s why I didn’t let Posh Spice come to it.” Thomas added: “He thought David was hot, but he couldn’t abide Victoria.” Chin up, Vic.
