While it’s OK to clip the odd hangnail, says nail expert Ji Baek of Rescue Beauty Lounge, you shouldn’t make a habit of snipping away at your cuticles. Their function is to protect the delicate nail bed from germs, and the moment you start cutting them off, the exposed nail bed will be at risk of infection. Instead, Ji suggests moisturising cuticles regularly. Post-shower, apply almond oil and use firm circular thumb strokes to gently push cuticles back without peeling them from the nail.
