The long-awaited collaboration between one of fashion’s hottest designers and the UAE’s fave stores will finally arrive on the high street later this month, and here at Ahlan! we got first look of what you can expect to find. Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection is a grown-up range perfect for your work wardrobe, with fitted dresses, pencil skirts and sharply tailored shirts, all in typical Mouret style and created with Banana Republic’s unique Sloan fabric, which is known for its fantastic fit. The designer has worked hard to create pieces that are very similar to his high-end designs, enabling us to experience the craftsmanship synonymous with his luxe label. We chatted exclusively to Roland Mouret about the collection.

What was your design process for the collaboration?
The first time I met with the Banana Republic team we literally draped fabric on a model to give her the most flattering look possible and created the collection from there. I worked to connect myself with Banana Republic’s Sloan fabric and was amazed at how seamlessly the material worked as I draped each piece.

You chose to use the Banana Republic Sloan fabric as the basis for the capsule - what makes it unique?
I was initially drawn to the Sloan fabric for this collection because of its stretchy but firm texture. The material gives a smoothing appearance and creates a form-fitting silhouette, which has always been part of my brand’s DNA.

What attracted you to partner with a high street brand, and why do you feel the collaboration with Banana Republic is fitting?
Working with Gap on a dress collection in 2006 was a great experience, and I am excited now to work with Banana Republic on a larger range – nearly three times the size of my Gap collaboration, and also this time with a global retail presence.

What was it like collaborating with Banana Republic?
The team were so helpful through the entire process. The capsule collection is an iconic blend of the best of both brands that fits the Banana Republic woman. It was a lot of fun working with the team to see the collection come to life as we went through the process.
