On Friday (1 November) night Jay Z entertained a capacity crowd on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi at the F1 concert, but was stopped abruptly mid-set by a power cut.
The hip-hop legend had been on stage less than 20 minutes before a generator is thought to have blown and cut all sound from the du Arena as the Brooklyn-born star was plunged into darkness.
Rather than a throw a diva fit, however, Jay Z simply shrugged his shoulders, sipped on a bottle of water and then chilled out backstage while the problem was fixed. He then sent Timbaland out to warm the crowd up again. The record producer dropped a few tunes and within 10 minutes the power failure was forgotten as Jay Z emerged back on stage and said: “It was so banging we blew a generator!”
The crowd didn't seem to mind the interruption too much and applauded their idol as he battled through and rocked the arena.
Jay, real name Shawn Carter, performed hits from his extensive back catalogue as well as a few of his more commercial mainstream successes, including Big Pimpin’, Run This Town, Tom Ford, Hard Knock Life, and Dirt Off Your Shoulder, before ending with Numb.
According to our sources, Jay Z prepared for his first show in the Middle East by eating fish at Zuma. One reveller told Ahlan!, "I saw him sitting in Zuma earlier just eating with his friends. He was sat there with everyone else and looked pretty normal."
