RULER OF THE RED CARPET
Everyone knew Sacha Baron Cohen would do something hilarious and over-the-top on the red carpet, but few guessed it would involve host Ryan Seacrest and the fake ashes of Kim Jong-Il. A few days before the main event, news broke that Sacha wanted to storm the Oscars dressed as Admiral General Aladeen, his character from his upcoming movie The Dictator. The Academy threatened to ban the funnyman, but Sacha haggled with them and got to make his splash… with ashes! On the red rug, Sacha told Ryan he was carrying the remains of the former North Korean leader and claimed it was Kim Jong-Il’s dying wish “to be sprinkled over the red carpet and over Halle Berry’s chest.” Instead of Halle, he got Ryan. Sacha tipped the urn all over the host, covering his tux in white powder. A not-too-pleased Ry tweeted, “My mom always told me to pack two jackets for red carpets, always wondered why. Now I know,” and Piers Morgan called it, “just another day in Hollywood”.
FLASHERS
Picking up the wardrobe controversy award this year was American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez. Milliseconds after she got on stage to present the Oscar for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup with Cameron Diaz, the Twitterverse started buzzing about J-Lo flashing a little too much on top. Oh Jenny, haven’t you ever heard of double-stick tape? In the leg department, Angelina Jolie posed with her right pin in a weird cowboy pose while walking the red carpet with Brad. Have you been hitting the gym, Ange, or is the right one just that much better than the left? In minutes, her actions inspired the Twitter handle ‘Angiesrightleg’ and plenty of comparisons to Elizabeth Berkley in Showgirls.
BABY BUMP?
Katie Holmes is so not the type to binge before an Oscar party, so we can’t help but think... is Tom Cruise’s other half pregnant?! Wearing an ethereal Elie Saab gown, Katie’s stomach looked anything but flat as she arrived at the Vanity Fair after-party hand-in-hand with Tom. Cinched at the waist with a thin belt, the dress showed off her sizeable lower belly draped in a few layers of chiffon. It could be a five-course dinner bump or a trick of the fabric, but we’re hoping for the pitter-patter of little feet. The rest of Katie was just as lithe as usual, and she even debuted a new ‘do with a full fringe. Back in 2010, Katie told Marie Claire that TomKat might have more children “in a couple of years.” Well! A couple of years would be right about now.
HARDEST PARTIER
Kelly Osbourne had one looong Oscar experience! Hosting the red carpet arrivals for E!, she didn’t hold back on wardrobe critiques. Discussing J-Lo’s sparkly Zuhair Murad number with Giuliana Rancic, Kel said, “It’s kind of like if she was hosting the Latin Grammys — like what she would wear as her wow dress.” J-Lo would not be pleased with the stereotyping! After the main event, Kel had to choose between duelling Madonna and Elton John’s after-parties. Her choice? Both! On the way from Elton’s to Madonna’s, she tweeted a scandalous Instagram pic of her with mad-for-it Miley Cyrus and the message, “I got a kiss from one of the hottest chicks in Hollywood!”
LEGAL DRAMA
Just because you’re a B-lister, doesn’t mean you should act like one. Actress Sean Young did just that when she was arrested at the Oscar’s official after party for assaulting a security guard. Classy! TMZ reported that the Ace Ventura: Pet Detective star got into a loud dispute with the guard and made physical contact. Sean was immediately placed under citizen’s arrest by security and then booked by the LAPD for misdemeanor battery. Thanks for teaching us what not to do at the Oscars!
