Oscar Pistorius Not Guilty of Murdering Girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp
The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, South Africa has announced the verdict on murder charges against Olympic and Paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius. The defendant has been found "not guilty" of murdering his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013.
Judge Thokozile Masipa will deliver her verdict on the charge of manslaughter and other firearms offences, when the court resumes.
The trial, which has been going on for six months, has heard testimonies from more than dozen witnesses, including Pistorius himself. The defendant claims that he though an intruder had broken into his home, resulting in his protective action of firing four shots through the bathroom door, which ended up hitting and killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The decision regarding a potential conviction for manslaughter in the case is expecting shortly.
