Naomie Harris in Dubai: Pays Tribute to Nelson Mandela
Naomie Harris gave an emotional tribute to the late great Nelson Mandela at a screening of his biopic on Tuesday night (10 December), just hours after his memorial service was held in Soweto, South Africa. The British actress very elegantly praised the political leader and spoke about how the film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom had impacted her life.
Speaking at the screening at the Dubai International Film Festival, Naomie said: “It’s an honour to be presenting the film on such an important day. I was very proud to be playing the role of Winnie."
Although the filmmakers had originally decided to cancel the screening, camp Mandela suggested they go ahead with it as it was a celebration of his life.
Naomie wowed in a black dress, but the evening remained a sombre occasion as the audience held a minute's silence in memory of him before the film was shown, and then gave the movie a standing ovation when it finished.
The red carpet was also closed to all photographers and videographers for the gala screening, and no photography or videography was permitted within DIFF HQ between 7:30pm and 11pm.
