The Weeknd and Bella Hadid were spotted looking cosy at a film screening at the Cannes Film Festival.

The former couple, who split in 2016 after dating for a year and a half, was photographed watching Ash Is Purest White (Jiang Hu Er Nv) at the annual festival on Friday, just one day after they were spotted looking very close at a nightclub at the exclusive beach resort.

The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, and supermodel Bella were snapped by a fan at the screening, and the Starboy hitmaker appeared to try and dismiss the rumours with his own photo on Instagram.

Showing him with two male friends - and his former girlfriend nowhere to be seen - he wrote: "Honestly just tryna watch movies."

The 28-year-old singer split from Bella in 2016, and later began dating Selena Gomez, only for them to break up after 10 months in October.

The model opened up about her break-up from the singer in an interview with Teen Vogue last year, and revealed that she still had feelings for him.

"I'll always respect him, and I'll always love him," Bella explained. "Sometimes you want to be sad about it or handle it differently, but at the end of the day, you never want to burn a bridge that you've fought so hard to build."

According to Hollywood Life, Selena was distraught after seeing the photos of The Weeknd cosying up to his former flame, and "screamed" when she was shown the snaps.

"Selena screamed, ‘what the...?,’ when she found out about Bella and Abel making out in Cannes,” a source told the website. "She was completely shocked and can’t believe they are back together after everything they have been through.”
