Miranda Kerr Reveals Her Style Secrets
She might be one of the world’s hottest supermodels, but Miranda Kerr is much more than just a pretty face. The 30-year-old former Victoria’s Secret model has moved on from the fashion house and now has her own beauty line, as well as being the face of high street chain Mango and Gillette Venus razors. What’s more, she recently announced the launch of her own style guide for Net-a-Porter.com, in which she’ll present her favourite family recipes and top fashion and fitness tips. While her private life is being scrutinised following her split from husband Orlando Bloom, Miranda’s career is going from strength to strength as she juggles life as a fashion icon with being a mum to her two-year-old son, Flynn. Ahlan! chatted to the Australian bombshell to find out what’s really in her wardrobe and just how she always looks so drop-dead gorgeous!
Describe your style
Relaxed and understated. I think that fashion can be a metaphor for how you’re feeling. Some days I might want to vamp it up a little, on other days I might want to be more casual, and I think that fashion is a good way of expressing that.
What are your wardrobe staples?
A great pair of jeans, and a cool blazer. I Also like my maxi dress because you can just float around in it. It’s lightweight and easy to wear.
And your favourite accessory?
Sunglasses and me, we have a love fest! Sometimes the paparazzi can be in your face so much that if I wear sunglasses I feel a little more protected. Also, with sunnies you don’t have to worry about doing your make-up. You just put them on and you’re done!
What about shoes? Heels or flats?
When I’m working or if I go to an event, I love to wear high heels but if I’m just going to the park with Flynn then flats are more comfortable. At home I don’t wear any shoes!
What fashion advice would you give to other women?
Try on everything before you buy it and don’t necessarily follow a trend, but go for what you feel good in. If you’re feeling good then you are going to look gorgeous, so go for what works for your individual body type.
What items have been in your travel bag this year?
Definitely a big hat and a great sarong. Tinted moisturiser and face mist by my beauty line Kora Organics are a must-pack! I like to be organised before I go somewhere. I think about where I’m going and what I’ll be doing. I always have a little black dress and a pair of really great heels. I have a pair of high black heels that always come with me. I have homes in New York, LA and London so I keep different pieces in each place that are relevant to that city.
Who’s your red carpet style icon?
When it comes to the red carpet, I think Angelina Jolie.
Have you ever had a fashion disaster?
It’s all a learning curve and so there are plenty of things that I have worn that I wouldn’t necessarily wear again now. But it’s all part of having fun with fashion and not taking anything too seriously.
What are your top diet tips?
I don’t believe in dieting. If you want a healthy snack try some frozen blueberries! Another secret is the ‘Mummy’s muffins’ I make as a special treat for my son. They’re really healthy as they are made with oatmeal, chopped walnuts, honey, cinnamon, apple, blueberries, a little goat’s yoghurt and coconut oil. Yum!
So, what is the key to eating healthily?
It’s all about a balance. If you can make healthy choices, then why not? And then, at other times, it’s good to be a little indulgent because we’re all human and it’s not about depriving yourself at all. As we know, if you deprive yourself then naturally you’re going to feel like indulging even more.
What’s your favourite way to stay in shape?
I like to be outside. I love hiking in the hills or walking on the beach; every day is different but I usually aim to do at least 20 minutes to half an hour a day.
Tell us a bit about your daily beauty routine.
At home I like to keep it very simple with very lightweight make-up and then, if I am at work, it depends on the shoot. I’ve always liked colour on my lips. I know what tones work for me now after all these years in the industry. I’m very big on eyebrows, too. I groom them and pluck them myself, and use eyebrow gel to keep them in place.
Do you use any unusual products?
I use egg white in my hair for shine and you can also put it on your face. Avocado is good for the skin and cucumber for the eyes. You can also put coconut oil in your hair as a treatment.
Finally, what advice do you have for women who want to feel good about themselves?
It all starts from within and being comfortable and confident in your own skin. If you let that inner beauty shine it really does radiate throughout the rest of your body and you’ll look great as well as feeling beautiful!
