Barsha Heights, formerly known as Tecom, is slowly but surely enjoying a thoroughly modern makeover. Part of the new and improved scene is hot new hotel Tryp by Wyndham which has now finally opened its doors to the public.

Team Ahlan! had the pleasure of visiting Tryp for a sneaky peek last week before it opened. We were wowed by the sleek interiors and quirky design elements. Stepping into the lobby feels like stepping into a trendy hotel in London's Shoreditch.

A quick tour of the rooms revealed clean, cool designs and comfortable surroundings. Some rooms even feature an exercise bike for gym bunnies who can't bear to even walk to the (very slick) fitness centre.

Tryp by Wyndham Hotel is now open in Barsha Heights

We also enjoyed a taster menu for the hotel's airy lobby-based restaurant Local. We snacked on blue cheese and fig canapes, meaty camel burgers and brilliant mini dessert sliders. The food was delicious, different and fun. Chef de Cuisine Ilker Yokus and his team will be striving to create authentic dishes such as the spinach basil freekeh risotto, forest floor salad or zaatar crusted salmon fillet as well as a variety of live food stations.

“Local has something for everyone, it’s a place to bring the whole family, a place to catch up with friends for sundowners, a place to relax with a coffee or just hang out with your pooch.” says the restaurant and bar Manager, Derek Williams. “We’ve created Localfor ‘rocals’, which is residential locals, whether expat or Emirati, we are adding a new vibrant element to the very popular Barsha Heights dining and social scene and we are very excited to introduce the concept to the public.”

The outdoor terrace seats 150

The hotel boasts a huge wraparound patio which we were told would play host to BBQs. There is gated access to a park so kids can happily play while parents enjoy some much-needed downtime. If you live in Barsha Heights and are out walking your pet pooch, the patio is an ideal place to take 5 minutes with a cold beverage. Pets are welcome on Tryp by Wyndham's lovely outdoor patio.

INFO: Local is located on the Ground Floor, open daily 6.30am-midnight, Tryp by Wyndham Dubai Hotel, Al Saef 1 Street, Barsha Heights Dubai, 04 247 6630, trypwyndhamdubai.com
