Super-producer Mark Ronson has scored his first number one single in his native UK with his Bruno Mars collaboration, Uptown Funk.

The catchy tune's release was brought forward by several weeks due to popular demand after it was covered by aspiring singer Fleur East on British reality show The X Factor, and the move has now paid off.

An ecstatic Ronson, whose previous UK chart best was second place with Stop Me and Amy Winehouse collaboration Valerie, tells "This is my first Number One single as an artist or producer so I just want to thank everyone who bought, downloaded or DJ'd Uptown Funk this past week.

"It's pretty much the coolest thing ever. I also have to thank (songwriters) Phil Smeeze, Jeff Bhasker and the boy wonder Bruno Mars without whom there'd be no jam."

He replaces Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud, which falls to two, ahead of Band Aid 30's Do They Know It's Christmas?, which takes third place.

Meanwhile, on the British albums chart, Sheeran's X bounces back to number one in its 25th week on release.

Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour is at two, while singer Olly Murs places at three with Never Been Better.
