The local clutch-bag designer who’s being picked up by international A-listers
- Landing one of my clutches on Kendall Jenner for her 21st birthday is a highlight of the last year. A stylist came to our showroom in Paris and I didn’t know who they represented; then I spotted my piece at a party on Instagram. Initially, I thought somebody had copied one of my designs but then I zoomed in and could see my signature details. You need to have your eyes on everything as you don’t know where your pieces will end up. I also travelled to New York to do the Christmas Trunk Show at Bergdorf Goodman at the end of 2016.
- Dubai can sometimes be seen as really far from the rest of the fashion world, so I like to be in Paris during Fashion Week to get attention. I rent a space there with some designer friends: Bouguessa clothing design, Monica Sordo jewellery design based in New York and Michael Lo Sordo, a Sydney-based designer.
- I studied fashion design in Dubai and was focused on clothing until I did a clear red acrylic clutch bag and put it on social media – everything took off from that point.
- Instagram is key tool for my business and I have a following in excess of 30,000. There are definite spikes in website traffic when key pieces are featured there.
