Jessica Simpson may be famous for her ‘duh’ moments, but she’s no dumb blonde! The singer has made millions from her clothing line and now she’s got something even more bankable – a newborn baby!
Jess gave birth to her 9lb 14oz baby girl Maxwell Drew (Maxwell is fiancé Eric Johnson’s middle name; Drew is Jess’ grandmother’s maiden name) on 1 May and sources are saying that the bundle of joy could bring in $14 million (that’s Dhs51.5million!) for the new mum! Even before Maxwell was born, Jess was trying to make money off her. The New York Post reported that she tried to get a half-million dollar pay out from US celeb mags for the official “I’m pregnant” announcement, but she was turned down and had to tweet a picture wrapped up as a mummy instead. While her first baby pics could sell for a few million – Jennifer Lopez reportedly earned between $4 million and $6 million for pics of her twins – Jess has got plenty of other lucrative tricks up her sleeve! And she also has her business-savvy dad, Papa Joe, to help her.
Cashing in on Clothes
She’s already got a huge clothing empire, grossing between $750 million and $1 billion a year, and she’s ready to boost those numbers with baby Max! “She can add mom-friendly products to her line – that means diaper bags, maternity-wear, baby blankets and 6-inch pump baby shoes. Jessica’s profit from her business is likely in the range of $10 million to $20 million a year. Baby product extensions could serve to make her at least another $5 million annually,” according to Fox News.
Paid to Shed Pounds
She packed on the weight when she was pregnant with Maxwell, but Jessica is going to make money off the extra pounds! A source said, “On average, a celebrity like Mariah Carey who signs a deal with a major weight-loss company like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig can stand to profit at the rate of approximately $33,000 per pound.” Jess, who gained between 50lb and 60lb during her pregnancy, is already negotiating with Weight Watchers and could walk away with $3 million from that deal!
Big dollar endorsements
Jess has her own brand, but there are plenty of other mum and baby brands to put her famous name behind. “The market for celebrity mommies – ‘mama-preneurs’ – is huge these days, as every product from strollers to stretch mark cream wants a famous mommy to talk about their product,” Fox reports. Jess can even make money from her endorsement tweets! “Just by tweeting, Jessica can make seven figures. Easy,” the network claims.
Another Reality Show
In 2003, she helped pioneer the couple reality show genre with Newlyweds, and Jess could definitely go back to her reality ways. “The value of a celebrity mom has never been higher,” says US Weekly. “A reality show could bring Jess as much as $5 million a year, and even more if she capitalises on product placement the way we have seen on Bethenny Frankel’s show and the Kardashian empire,” Fox reported. Along with Bethenny, B-listers Tori Spelling and Kendra Wilkinson transformed their careers with mum reality shows. More famous than both Tori and Kendra – despite her first and last top 10 hit being more than a decade ago – Jess has a chance to make major bucks and give her career a much needed boost, all with a little help from Maxwell Drew!
