Our skin bothers everyone on a daily basis – whether it’s the odd pimple, pore or blackhead, we have at least one issue but skincare expert Dr Terry is here to help us. The newly appointed global skincare expert for The Body Shop gives us insight on what skin care product everyone should have, areas of concern we should not be ignoring and a mistake that all of us make when it comes to looking after our skin.

What’s the one skin care product you think is most important to use?

A good anti-ageing serum.

What are areas of concern that people tend to ignore?

The neck and décolletage. As women we tend to invest on our face and can forget about these areas. The skin on the neck and décolletage is thin so it's easier for it to get damaged from UV rays or extreme weather. Make sure you extend your serums all the way down to your neck and décolletage, not forgetting to use sunscreen on these delicate areas. You can also apply the sleeping mask on these area at night for added hydration and bounce.

What made you want to become a skin care expert?

My late mother who suffered from bad skin. She never had the products and technology we have today. I've seen how it affected her confidence so this inspired me to help as many people as I can to feel confident in their skin.

What’s the most common mistake people make when looking after their skin?

Using the wrong products for their skin type.

Do anti-ageing products really work? What is the most important ingredient?

Unfortunately there is no magic potion and staying young and healthy both inside and out involves a combination of things. How well anti-ageing products work will depend on the right formulation, the right technique of using them, the right skin type, an optimised lifestyle based on the genetic hand you've been given at the start of life. I'm pleased to see product ingredients are getting more sophisticated e.g. the Edelweiss stem cell technology where we are using science to harness the power of nature. Another key ingredient to have in your ingredient pool is hyaluronic acid which is naturally found in our skin to maintain  hydration, moisture and plumpness.

The newest product to hit The Body Shop is the Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask which is designed to be left on overnight and will give you potent skin cell renewing properties so now sleep yourself young!
