HAVOC: Last week’s sandstorm caused 135 traffic accidents in Dubai!
The sandstorm caused havoc on the roads

When we woke up on Thursday and could barely see out of our windows, we knew chaos was about to erupt. Police have now confirmed that the major sandstorm that swept across the Gulf last week caused 125 traffic accidents, along with 1639 calls received by Dubai’s Police Control and Command Centre between 6am and noon.

The sandstorm also caused flight delays and cancellations at Dubai’s two international airports. Dubai Airports had to re-route many flights on Thursday to Al Maktoum, an airport that mainly handles cargo, in a bid to minimise flight disruption. Even the boys from One Direction were affected by the weather. They told fans at their Dubai concert that their flight from South Africa had to be diverted to Bahrain. Dubai Airports tweeted: “Normal operations have been disrupted at DXB & DWC due to bad weather across GCC. Check with your airline for updates.”

Luckily everything is back to normal now, but please remain cautious on the roads!
