Get Free WiFi on Dubai Metro and Help the Needy During Ramadan
Attention commuters! You can now get free wifi on all Dubai Metro trains and help the needy!
UAE service provider du announced that the complimentary internet access will be available on all Dubai Metro carriages and on both the red and green lines for the duration of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Passengers can use the free Wifi to post content on their social media websites, and du will donate Dhs10 for every post carrying the hashtag #30DaysofSharing.
Users are encouraged to post content on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram about the things that make Ramadan special for them.
The money donated will support du’s Mawaed Al Rahman iftar tables to help give iftar meals to those who are less fortunate.
In order to connect to the free service, Dubai Metro passengers must first select the ‘du Wifi’ option from the Wifi menu on their phones, after which they should open their browsers. Users will then be directed to the du Wifi landing page, where they can begin browsing the internet for free.
“Providing complimentary WiFi will allow Dubai’s commuters to enjoy a higher level of seamless connectivity,” said Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Commercial Officer of du.
“The ability to connect anywhere, at any time, empowers people with the ability to be more productive, and to stay in touch with the things that matter most to them – something that we consider to be important at a time such as the Holy Month of Ramadan,” he added.
In 2012, du began providing Wifi on Dubai Metro carriages, but the service provider currently charges users who wish to access the service.
Whether this service is likely to continue after the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan, it is yet unclear – but the discussion about the possibility of free Wifi on Dubai Metro trains has been ongoing for some time.
