Delightful and seemingly addictive; theobroma cacao is the official name for chocolate produced from the beans of the cacao tree. Lucky for us, it’s been proven scientifically that moderate amounts of high-quality chocolate can be beneficial to our health. Here's how...

1. A Healthier Heart
Research shows that two servings of dark chocolate per week can cut the risk of heart failure by a third. It can also play a part in lowering blood pressure thanks to the flavonoids and antioxidant compounds that increase flexibility of the veins and arteries.

2. It's Linked to Weight Loss
Recent studies found dark chocolate to lessen cravings for sweet, salty and fatty foods. Dark chocolate is also far more filling and satisfying than sugary candy bars. Most chocolates come with a very liberal portion of milk, sugar and butter, which negates the health benefits of the cacao, so choose wisely.

3. Improves Your Mood
Scientists have discovered a compound known as phenylethylamine, a chemical that’s released in the brain during moments of euphoria, which explains why eating chocolate makes you feel more relaxed and less anxious.
