Etihad is testing hand baggage-only flights

This is MAJOR!

Etihad airways is looking to introduce hand baggage only flights, much like budget airlines such as flydubai and Air Arabia. These airlines have quite affordable fares, due to the fact that passengers can choose to pay less if they aren't checking-in any baggage.

Etihad is currently testing this model on flights from Abu Dhabi to Bahrain and Kuwait. The flights must be booked between October 18 and December 18, and passengers can opt to travel until March 31, 2018 with just a seven kilogram carry-on.

"We are testing a new lower fare on these key routes," said Etihad Airways executive vice president for commercial Mohammad Al Bulooki, reports Gulf News.

“This trial is designed to provide an option for those who are looking for cheaper fares when travelling light.”

The introduction of this scheme also comes after an increase in the number of passengers who either simply choose to travel light, or those who travel frequently for short periods of time.

“Passenger feedback and travel habits show that many of Etihad Airways’ customers, especially those travelling for business, weekend getaways or day trips, don’t require checked baggage," said Al Bulooki.

We really, really hope this new scheme works and is eventually rolled out on a much larger scale.

Imagine the luxury of Etihad at lower prices, bliss!
