Etihad Airways pilot dies mid-flight

Tragedy struck an Etihad flight just yesterday.

An Etihad Airways pilot passed away while operating a cargo flight from Abu Dhabi to Amsterdam, forcing the aircraft to be diverted to Kuwait, where it made an emergency landing.

“Etihad Airways is saddened to report the death of one of its pilots onboard flight EY 927, a freighter service from Abu Dhabi to Amsterdam. After the captain became incapacitated early in the flight, the First Officer issued an emergency call and safely diverted the aircraft to Kuwait,” Etihad said in a statement, reports Gulf News.

A medical team was on standby upon the plane's landing, but unfortunately the pilot was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss, and are focused on taking care of our late colleague's family at this time, to whom we offer our heartfelt condolences,” Etihad said.

Etihad Airways has not yet disclosed any information pertaining to the identity or cause of death of their pilot.

Our deepest condolences to the pilot's friends and family.
