Dubai's new Metro link: What you need to know

In case you haven't heard, or seen, Dubai Metro is undergoing quite the extension in preperation for Expo 2020.

The new route will extend from Dubai Metro's Red Line, from Nakheel Harbour and Tower station all the way to the Expo 2020 site near the Al Maktoum International Airport, and will include seven new stations.

Connecting Dubai
The new, 15km route will provide connectivity to the following areas:

  • The Gardens 
  • Discovery Gardens
  • Al Furjan
  • Jumeirah Golf Estate 
  • Dubai Investment Park

Carriage upgrades
The new metro line will feature carriages built by French company Alstom. These carriages, while similiar to the current operational ines in looks, will be more modern in design.

The new, eco-friendly trains are 88 metres long and consist of five carriages each. Each train can hold up to 700 passengers and will cover the whole 15km distance of the new Metro line.

The Metro 2020 route is expected to be operational in time for Expo 2020.
