Dubai to Build World's First Temperature-Controlled City - Check Out Mall of the World!
Think you’ve already been to the world’s largest mall? Think again. Dubai has plans to outdo itself in the new Mall of the World project – the world’s first temperature-controlled city.
The miniature pedestrian city will span around 48 million square feet and will be one of the main developments for Expo 2020 – with 100 hotels and serviced apartment buildings with 20,000 hotel rooms. Located on Sheikh Zayed Road, the project will have a 7km network of covered retail streets as well as the largest mall in the world, occupying 8 million square feet.
The Mall of the World project will have a large, glass dome enclosure that will open during the winter months, when the weather in Dubai is agreeable. The purpose of this is to provide year-round attractions for tourists in a temperature-controlled environment, even during Dubai’s hottest months!
“Our ambitions are higher than having seasonal tourism – tourism is a key driver of our economy and we aim to make the UAE an attractive destination all-year long,” His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was reported to have said in the launch statement.
The project will include the world’s largest indoor theme park as well as a 3 million square feet Wellness District for medical tourists.
It will also house the Dubai Cultural District and Celebration Walk – all of which parallel what tourists can find in the world’s largest cultural hubs, such as New York’s Broadway, London’s Oxford Street and Barcelona’s Ramblas Street.
