Dubai taxi fares have increased by five percent

Bad news for frequent taxi users in Dubai. Taxi fares have increased by five percent, meaning that you will have to pay an additional 11 fills per kilometre. And if you're heading to the airport, expect to pay 21 fills extra per kilometre.

Last year, taxi flag down rates went up from Dhs3 to Dhs5, while the rate for booked taxis went up from Dhs10 to Dhs12 during peak hours. Now taxi users will have to pay an additional five percent above their total fare.

The Roads and Transport Authority explained: "As part of its endeavours towards continuous improvement of its services, the RTA has increased the taxi fares by 5 per cent which is a marginal increase. For e.g. if the fare is Dhs30, it will now be priced Dhs31.50"
