du warns users of potential mobile scam

Everyone wants to be a millionaire, but don't let your hopes fool you!

Telecom company du has warned users of a scam that's been going around the country, where users are getting calls claiming that tey have won either prizes or big bucks!

“Please ignore calls from unknown people, informing you that you have won a prize, especially if you did not take part in any competition or draw,” du said in its message sent out to customers, reports Gulf News.

“If you receive such a call and you’re unsure about the authenticity of the information, please contact our customer care.”

There's always a chance to win here in the UAE, wth companies offering ridiculous prizes such as gold and cars, so it's easy to be fooled, as in most cases, winners are contaced via a phone call.

Here are a few warning signs of a scam:

  • You're asked to pay a fee
  • You are asked to wire money to an account
  • You will be sent a cheque that you have to deposit
  • You have to attend a marketing event in order to win

If you're ever asked to do any of these things, be sure you're dealing wth a scammer!
