Cosmetics, herbal remedies and henna were seized from UAE salons

A large number of dodgy beauty products have been seized from UAE salons in the past year.

Inspectors visited 2,875 beauty salons across Abu Dhabi in the past year and found 254 violations and seized over 5,000 packets of products including cosmetics, herbal remedies and henna that were used on clients and were either counterfeit, unlicensed or expired.

"Some beauty centres were caught offering therapeutic services such as permanent tattoos besides offering other unlicensed services to children and men, such as haircutting," said a municipal spokesperson.

Violations also included treatments such as ear piercing, poor hygiene and ineffective sterilising equipment.
