Chef Jailed After Guests Fall Ill With Salmonella in Dubai Marina
Five guests who treated themselves to dessert aboard a floating restaurant in Dubai Marina caught a salmonella infection and now the chef who prepared the dish has been jailed as a consequence for risking his guest's health, according to an Emirates 24/7 report.
The chef has been sentenced to three months in prison and a fine of Dhs10,000 over the incident that had five women people hospitalized.
Apparently, the chef had failed to store the dessert that contained eggs in cool and hygienic place, causing it to catch the bacteria.
The affected guests, who were attending a company party, were admitted to multiple hospitals, after they felt signs of illness including fever, vomiting and stomach pain.
A representative of the Dubai Municipality had inspected the desseert and testified to the court that is was in fact not suitable for eating, as it was infected with salmonella.
