One minute rundown: Gwen's brother formed the band No Doubt with his mates from the local Dairy Queen, and she agreed to join as second vocalist - well, there can't have been much else to do around there. Falling for fellow bandmate, she and bassist Tony Kanal were together for seven years, but it was only when they broke up and Gwen poured her heartache into a host of songs, that label Interscope gave the failing band a second chance, releasing what would become a smash hit - Tragic Kingdom.

The band toured for over two years, and Gwen met Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale in 1996, before scooping a Grammy for her duet with rapper Eve. She and Gavin started a long distance relationship, although they married in 2002. The band won two Grammys in 2003 for Hey Baby and Underneath It All, and Gwen was hunted by Martin Scorsese for a role in The Aviator, as well as launching a clothing range. In 2004 she went solo "on a break" from the band, and what with becoming a mother and a successful career woman, she's never looked back.
