One minute rundown: Salma used to be quite a good gymnast when she was ickle - well, a really good one seeing as though she was lined up for the Olympics! Her parents said "no" however, so she went to live with her aunt in Texas before moving to Mexico City to become an actress. Luckily it worked out - at 23 she was cast in a soap called Teresa, which made her a star in Mexico.

In America, Salma had bit parts in a host of movies, until the hot chemistry between her and Antonio Banderas in Desperado made the whole world sit up and take notice. Her performance as a vampire in the bloodsucking From Dusk Till Dawn was preceded by The Spy Kids trilogy and she won a Best Actress Academy Award nomination for her part in Frida, in 2002, which she also produced. Hayek was executive producer and also guest starred in the surprise hit Ugly Betty - an American series about a misfit in the fashion magazine world. The show won a Golden Globe Award for Best Comedy series in 2006. Hasn't she done well.
