One minute rundown: Growing up with pretty strict parents, Jake wasn't always allowed to take the film roles he won, or audition when he wanted to, but his parents had ties to the film industry and he and sister Maggie were allowed to act in their dad's movies (how nice of him!). In 1991 he broke out and starred with Billy Crystal in City Slickers, playing his son, but it was his eerie lead in cult smash Donnie Darko that put him in the big league in 2001.

Sexy Jake has dated Rilo Kiley singer Jenny Lewis in the past, and had a long term relationship (and a dog) with girlfriend Kirsten Dunst, after the pair met through his sister. Jake is now linked to Reese Witherspoon following her split from hubby Ryan Phillippe and his movie hit list continues to grow following the likes of The Day After Tomorrow and the controversial Brokeback Mountain. Jake is also godfather to Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams' daughter, Matilda Rose, after the trio were co-stars in the movie.
