John Travolta
Hairspray

He revived his career in the gangster role of Vincent Vega in Quentin Tarantino’s super-cool Pulp Fiction, so it’d be easy to think that John donning a baby pink sequinned dress and kilos of latex weight for the role of Edna Turnblad would be a sure-fire way to kill his career? But instead, Hairspray has been wowing worldwide audiences.

“I wanted [Edna] to look like Sophia Loren if you added 200lb,” reveals John. Adding, “Being Edna was fun, but becoming Edna was not fun. I loved the effect the look had on people… [but] how do women endure stockings and high heels? The discomfort level was astonishing.”
