Ashanti followed in the footsteps of Beyonce to get super svelte for her latest movie role and promotion of her new album. The R and B star went on the Master Cleanse programme – an extreme diet based around a cocktail of water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper, to be drunk whenever hunger pangs strike.

“I did the lemon-pepper-maple syrup diet for seven days,” says the singer. “When I got really hungry, I ate fruit. I lost four kilos and kept it off.”

Glamour says: This diet claims to dissolve and eliminate toxins at the rate of two pounds per day, but most of the weight you lose will be water, meaning that once the diet’s over, you’ll put the weight (and possibly more) back on. A tough (and not very tasty) quick fix we’d rather avoid.
