Racing season is once again upon us, and what better way to get into the spirit than with the Meydan Friday Family Brunch. Featuring an outdoor terrace overlooking the racetrack, Farriers restaurant is once again putting on an impressive spread of tantalising culinary delicacies.

Contrary to many of the aspects of the Meydan Racecourse, Farriers’ brunch prides itself on being extensively family-friendly. With a dedicated children’s section, featuring magic shows, face painting, a bouncy castle, and a questionably large pink mascot, the kids’ section is generous, even by Dubai standards. A small but pertinent buffet is laid out for the little ones, featuring faves such as mini burgers and hot dogs, was well as some slightly more adventurous (for some kids, anyway) options like sweet potato fries and chicken lollipops.

We, fun-loving adults that we are, make straight for the salads and starters, which have all been expertly prepared and temptingly laid out. The Waldorf salad and tiger prawns are a hit and masterfully succeed at whetting our appetites, while we sip on fruity goodness from the live juice station and enjoy the soulful live jazz.

Moving on to mains, a number of sizzling live stations tout their wares. Each station is a representation of a signature Meydan restaurant; thus, the options range from sushi and dim sum to shawarma, steaks and pasta. In our experience, brunches with such a wide selection tend to be lacking in the quality and taste department. But, thankfully, this is not the case here. Every dish we sample is impeccably cooked, often at live stations. We gobble so much that we almost don’t have space for dessert. A crime, surely?

But after a glimpse at the pudding spread, it doesn’t take much persuasion for us to dig in. Aside from the staple chocolate fountain (will we ever get bored of these?), luscious homemade ice creams with a choice of toppings are on offer for the inner child, as well as an array of hot and chilled sweets. We opt for a spoonful of rhubarb crumble and an ice cream cone with sprinkles, and we are not disappointed. It’s tart, creamy and yummy. Sipping our lattes, we have just enough space to squeeze in a decadent chocolate macaron before we call it a day.

For anyone looking for a well-rounded brunch, where kids are guaranteed to be entertained and adults sated, this is for you. INFO: 12.30pm-4pm, Dhs290 (soft beverages), Dhs450 (house beverages), Dhs590 (bubbly), Dhs155 kids, Farriers, Al Meydan Road, Dubai, 04 381 3111
