We’re on a mission to make the most of every single day outside in the UAE’s spring sunshine before summer hits. And you can make the most of a stunning day al fresco by brunching with a Burj Al Arab view. That is exactly what Rockfish offers.

We step in and are shown to our table on the terrace of the Jumeirah Al Naseem eatery. The seafront seafood restaurant boasts a panoramic vista, overlooking the azure sea and stunning Burj Al Arab. We’re instantly confident that this is going to be a brunch to remember.

We’re sat down for a matter of moments when a glass of bubbles arrives at our table, closely followed by a serving of freshly shucked oysters. This is a ‘sharing is caring’ brunch, so expect for each of the dishes to be served up on a platter.

It’s not long before a hearty seafood platter arrives at our table, with Tasmanian salmon, yellow fin tuna and sea bass crudos, along with a Mediterranean garden salad, tomato tartar and seared prawns. The food is light and fresh, perfect for a light lunch out on the terrace.

We then take a little break, and soak up our surroundings. The décor is stunning – think clean white walls, refreshing blues and stunning Mediterranean-inspired tiles. We’re pretty sure that there’s a trip to Dragon Mart in our future, to try and find the closest approximation for our own homes.

Back to the food, when it comes to the mains we have a choice between a wild mushroom risotto, buckets of garlic prawns, buckets of mussels and clams, a seafood mixed grill, baby chicken and oven-braised beef cheek.

We could opt for a little of all of them, but we stick to seafood, requesting just the garlic prawns and bucket of mussels and clams. The seafood is all packed full of flavour, in broths that you almost want to drink up when the shellfish is finished.

It’s then time to partake in a beverage from the special trolley, which makes its way round the eatery throughout the brunch. The barman asks what kind of mood we’re in today – “are you feeling fruity or cheeky?” – and then mixes up a beverage to our exact liking.

Now, let’s face it, it isn’t brunch if you’re walking out, not rolling out. So in the spirit of brunching, we say yes to dessert. The strawberries and cream cheesecake is a sweet treat and a total triumph.
