Brunch Review: Barbary, TRYP By Wyndham Barsha Heights
It’s been the talk of town since it opened a couple of months ago, for all the right reasons. Of course, we’re talking about Barsha Heights hot-spot Barbary. Known for its vibrant atmosphere, tasty cuisine and exotic mixed drinks, it’s a perfect evening venue to enjoy dinner or party, or even both. But did you know they also do an amazing brunch?
Okay, so it’s not the typical UAE brunch. It’s an actual à la carte brunch menu, served on weekends from noon until 5pm. And it features all the items you would expect on a brunch menu. And then some.
To start, we try the steel cut oats, which consists of Greek yogurt, fresh mint, maple syrup, berries and coconut flakes. It’s a healthy and tasty mix, and looks like the type of breakfast you’d see on Instagram. And yes, we obviously add it to our Instagram Stories before we take a first bite.
We then move on to the Barbary shashouka, which is undoubtedly the highlight of our entire weekend. We’re served two poached eggs and meatballs in homemade tomato sauce topped with chilli, garlic and olive oil. It’s saucy, rich in flavour and possibly one of the best shashoukas we’ve ever had the pleasure of consuming.
Our guest, on the other hand, plays it safe and orders the full breakfast. Sounds boring, right? Wrong! In typical Barbary style, the breakfast consists of two eggs, sausages, baked beans, black pudding, fried kale, roasted tomoato and Portobello mushrooms.
To finish, we decide to share the buttermilk pancakes as a sweet treat. The dish contains four pancakes, ricotta, poached peaches, pistachio crumble and Canadian maple syrup, and it’s what breakfast dreams are made of.
There’s also French melts, steak and eggs, bagels and all kinds of breakfast sandwiches, but we leave that for another day. After all that, we want a long late-afternoon nap. And that’s exactly what we do. Certainly the sign of a good, hearty meal.
