Sicilia
Our fave: Buffalo Caprese
Price of a margherita: Dhs54
This restaurant stands out because of its contemporary Sicilian-style home cooking, based on Italian family recipes. We recommend exploring the whole menu as, although the pizzas are delicious, there are great surprises, like their speciality caramelised octopus!
INFO: Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate, 04 444 5613, www.sicilia.ae.

Brandi Pizzeria
Our fave: Pizza Margherita
Price of a margherita: Dhs48

Brandi is the latest pizzeria to open in Dubai and is actually the first Brandi branch opened outside of Italy. The original restaurant, which was opened in Naples in 1780, is said to be the birthplace of the famous Pizza Margherita in 1889, and we have to say, we can see why! There isn’t a huge variety besides the classic, but if you like a good simple thin-crusted margherita, this restaurant is for you.

Jamie’s Italian
Our fave: Spicy Chilli Beef Pizza
Price of a margherita: Dhs59
Situated at the back of Dubai Festival City, Jamie’s offers a friendly and chilled out atmosphere set in stylish surroundings. Staff are friendly with helpful suggestions and a reassuringly extensive knowledge of the menu and ingredients. All pizzas are created using a sourdough, which makes for a crisp and light base. The pizza range on offer is quite modest, but each pie is created to perfection.

Bussola
Our fave: Parma Ham and Rocket Pizza
Price of a margherita: Dhs58
Bussola serves freshly prepared pizzas on the restaurant’s open air terrace. The fact that the terrace is only open for certain seasons, and you can’t order pizza indoors, makes it more special and makes having pizza an all-round experience. The pizza crusts are thin and crispy and the toppings are very generous!
INFO: The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina, 04 399 4141, www.westinminaseyahi.com.

Carluccio’s
Our fave: Rustica
Price of a margherita: Dhs38
Carluccio’s has restaurants around the world and is the only chain restaurant to have made it onto our list. Stone-baked pizzas are a fairly new addition to the menu and there’s a nice variety from simple margheritas to the more obscure toppings such as sliced pear with walnut!
INFO: Dubai Marina Mall, Mirdif City Centre, The Dubai Mall, 04 434 1320, www.carluccios.com.

Rossovivo
Our fave: Capricciosa
Price of a margherita: Dhs35
Owned by two Italian men from Naples, Rossovivo prides itself on its authentic stone-baked pizzas. You won’t find any meat feasts on this menu. Each item on the menu is extraordinary, from the Napoli – a classic pizza with tomato, mozzarella, anchovies, oregano and basil – to the Saltimbocca Roma – a sandwich pizza with mozzarella, ricotta, beef salami and turkey ham. The Napoli pizza oven is the only one of its kind in the city. It’s made from volcanic rock that was shipped from Naples, and took two people 10 days to build! Although eating in is nothing special, we definitely recommend ordering!
INFO: Millennium Tower, Business Bay, Dubai, 04 380 5833, www.rossovivo.ae.

La Veranda
Our fave: Volcano
Price of a margherita: Dhs60
The location of La Veranda– situated directly on the beach of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel with views of the hotel and the Burj Al Arab – really makes it. The casual restaurant serves 18 varieties of thin-crust pizzas that may not be the most adventurous of choices, but as we say, La Veranda is more about the overall dining experience. It’s is a great spot for a quiet dinner but be warned: the capacity is only 68 and the restaurant operates on a first-come-first-served basis, so head down early.
INFO: Jumeirah Beach Hotel, 04 406 8999, www.jumeirah.com.

Pompeii
Our fave: Pompeii Primavera
Price of a margherita: Dhs35
You may not walk in and forget that you are in JLT but you will be treated to a good pizza. With 16 toppings to choose from you’re spoilt for choice. The pizzas have traditional thin crust bases and come in two sizes. Be warned: the large is really large! Certainly worth checking out.
INFO: 1 Lake Plaza, 04 453 9390.
